A conservative Snow White: Daily Wire's bet to combat Disney's wokism

The film, starring YouTuber Brett Cooper, will arrive in 2024 on Bentkey, the media outlet's new streaming platform.

Media outlet, The Daily Wire, this week launched its own children's platform with a conservative ideology: Bentkey. Created to combat traditional streaming networks that are increasingly implementing woke policies, Bentkey premiered on the same day that Walt Disney Animation turned 100 years old.

It wasn't a coincidence. According to the CEO of Daily Wire, Jeremy Boreing, they wanted their new children's platform to debut during the centenary of the mouse company, one of the ones that experienced the most changes due to the progressive policies in force today:

Disney controls the greatest content library ever created. Their cultural reach, particularly with children, is beyond anything that’s ever existed. Recognizing the scope of this loss, The Daily Wire announced we would spend $100 million over three years to begin our own kids entertainment company. And today, on the 100th anniversary of the day Walt Disney founded his company, I’m proud to announce the launch of ours.

Daily Wire's platform will rival Disney

Its fight against Disney led the conservative media to present its own version of one of the company's most emblematic feature films. So much so that it will have its own live-action version. A film that is generating a lot of controversy, not only because of the changes it is introducing but, especially, because of the comments of its protagonist, Rachel Zegler: "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."

The animated film, claims Daily Wire, led Disney to be what it is today. Released in 1937, it had a special meaning for Walt Disney who came to define it as a perfect film: "To me I thought it was a perfect story. It had the sympathetic dwarfs… It had the Prince and the girl, the romance … I just thought it was a perfect story."

One hundred years later, the company ignores its founder's opinion and has completely remade the film. There will no longer be seven dwarfs, nor a prince, and the protagonist will no longer be "white as snow" and will be played by a Latin actress, Rachel Zegler. Someone who, in addition, does nothing but criticize the animated version with comments like the one that she delivered during a brief interview at D23 in 2022 to Variety:

I just mean that it’s no longer 1937. We absolutely wrote a ‘Snow White,’ who’s not going to be saved by the prince, and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love; she’s going to be dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be, and the leader that her late father told her she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave and true.

Bentkey's Snow White

This fact led Daily Wire to present its own version of the Brothers Grimm tale. Its film, titled "Snow White and the Evil Queen," will arrive on the platform on March 22, 2024 and will be the first feature film on this children's platform:

This film will recover all the elements that the new Disney version has discarded: its protagonist will once again be "white as snow" and will be played by conservative YouTuber Brett Cooper. In addition, it will once again focus the plot on love, and not on female empowerment. This is how Boreing explained it:

It’s a story about a princess and a prince, about beauty and vanity, about love and its power to raise us from death to life. It’s our own adaptation of an ancient fairy tale.
