"Travel must be limited": several states affected by the winter storm

Cody Thomas, spokesman for the Nebraska State Patrol, reported that as of Monday, at least 60 "weather-related incidents" had been recorded on Interstate 80.

At least seven million people are on alert for the winter storm. The states of Nebraska, The Dakotas and Colorado have experienced intense snowfall in recent days, while rain and ice continue to cause accidents and chaos on roads in that region.

"Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle," the Meteorological Service wrote in an alert issued to citizens in the west of the country.

Meanwhile, meteorological news networks - such as The Weather Channel - aired images in which several vehicles were seen slipping on the roads due to the icy conditions. "Travel was very dangerous in parts of the Plains on Christmas Day as Winter Storm Donovan created a messy scene. Trucks spun out and cars crashed as the conditions worsened," explained The Weather Channel.

In that sense, the Nebraska State Patrol explained on Monday that the "storm is causing issues on the roads this Christmas morning. Slick driving conditions and blowing snow continue in many areas of the state."

Cody Thomas, spokesman for the Nebraska State Patrol, reported that as of Monday at least 60 "weather-related incidents" had been recorded on Interstate 80, mainly between Lincoln and North Platte.

"We’re urging all travelers to assess whether or not their travel is absolutely necessary before hitting the road," Thomas said in a statement reported by The New York Times.
