Rachel Zegler plays the victim after receiving criticism for attacking the original version of "Snow White"

The actress said her comments had been taken out of context and she doesn't want to appear ungrateful.

A new video of Rachel Zegler, the actress who plays the leading role in the latest version of “Snow White,” has sparked controversy. The artist tried to hold back tears as she talked about how difficult it has been to deal with criticism.

Zegler sparked controversy through social networks after videos resurfaced in which the actress criticized the 1937 Disney film and complained about the dress she had to wear during the recording. A clip was also shared in which she celebrated that the modern version of the production would be more feminist and would not focus on love.

However, after disapproval was voiced on social networks, the actress recorded a new video about how hard it has been to face so much criticism.

According to Zegler, while she might be “having the greatest time,” she spends a lot of time wishing people would stop “sending death threats.”

The actress says she doesn’t want to appear ungrateful and that many videos circulating on social networks take her out of context.

During the clip, the new protagonist of Snow White affirms that she is going through difficult times and missing a lot of people in her life, so she has decided to distance herself.

Zegler “scared” of the original version

In an interview, the actress said she didn’t like the 1937 cartoon version of Snow White. Even Zegler revealed that she watched it only once before being cast as the remake lead.

I was scared of the original cartoon, I think I watched it once,” she said. This made many social media users wonder why she had accepted the role of Snow White if she didn’t even like it.

“Rachel Zegler admitting she didn’t like Snow White growing up, saying she had only watched it ONCE before getting the role is so sad to me. Out of MILLIONS of women who loved the character, care about the story and yet this is who we get,” commented a user on X, formerly known as Twitter.

A more feminist film

Zegler also said that this story was not focused on love and criticized that the first version is about a “guy who literally stalks” Snow White.

The princess is “not going to be dreaming about true love. She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader that her late father told her that she could be,” she said.

However, this opinion of Zegler once again annoyed many users. “Criticizing Disney princesses is not feminist. Not every woman is a leader. Not every woman wants to be a leader. Not every woman wants or craves power,” said one Internet user.

Just because a woman values something different, does not make her any less valuable. Some women want a career and not marriage. Some women want a marriage or family and not a job. Some women want BOTH. All are to be heard, and seen, and valued. Write stories about ALL women and depict them ALL as valuable and worthy, instead of trying to mold them into one specific image of what you deem worthy. Zegler’s wardrobe complaints

The Snow White star also sparked controversy after demanding to be paid for every hour the film is streamed online during a protest by Hollywood actors.

“If I’m going to stand there 18 hours in a dress of an iconic Disney princess, I deserve to be paid for every hour that it is streamed online,” she said.
