Gina Carano sues The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm after her dismissal from 'The Mandalorian'

The actress alleges that she was removed for posting comments that the producers considered "denigrating" against certain social groups.

Actress Gina Carano ("Deadpool," "Fast & Furious 6") filed a lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company and one of its subsidiaries, Lucasfilm, before a federal court in California after the production company fired her in 2021 from "The Mandalorian," a Star Wars saga series in which she co-starred from 2019-2020.

The specific reason that led to Carano's dismissal was that the actress posted comments online that The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm interpreted as offensive against certain demographic groups. "Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm & there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural & religious identities are abhorrent & unacceptable," the company said in a statement.

Through a post on social media, Carano confirmed that she is filing the complaint against The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm, alleging that they did not respect her freedom of expression for positioning themselves against "the acceptable narrative of the time" and for being a victim of cancel culture:

The truth is I was being hunted down from everything I posted to every post I liked because I was not in line with the acceptable narrative of the time. My words were consistently twisted to demonize & dehumanize me as an alt right wing extremist. It was a bullying smear campaign aimed at silencing, destroying & making an example out of me.

The actress added that she never used "aggressive language," and that she only "shared thought provoking quotes, pictures, memes & occasionally I used my own words, not with aggression but with respect & the occasional comedy to keep the mood light in dark times."
