Slovakia announces purchase of American nuclear reactor
The European country has five reactors that meet about half of its energy needs.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced an agreement with the United States for the construction of a nuclear reactor, according to words picked up by the AP.
In announcing the agreement during a speech in the capital, the prime minister assured that the new facility will be the exclusive property of Slovakia. The details of the agreement and when it will be put on paper are not known at the moment.
Fico also detailed that the reactor will have a power of more than 1,000 megawatts and will be built in an existing nuclear power plant in the west of the country, in the municipality of Jaslovské Bohunice.
The Slovak government had already announced that it was negotiating with American company Westinghouse for the project.
The European country has five nuclear reactors in operation and another under construction, according to the World Nuclear Association. Nuclear power accounts for almost half of its energy.
