The Israeli governmentcarried out numerous air strikesagainst the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip, ending a cease-fire the two sides had agreed to in mid-January. In a statement, the office of the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, explained that the decision came after Israeli officials determined that the terrorist group was planning to execute another attack on Israeli soil, similar to the one committed on October 7, 2023, which ended with thousands of civilians killed and hundreds of innocent people kidnapped. Similarly, the Government of Israel indicated that it had decided to end the ceasefire following Hamas' reluctance to release the remaining hostages.

In another statement, Netanyahu and theIsraeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz, indicated that the "extensive bombardments" ordered against Hamas will be expanded throughout the region and assured that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will henceforth act with "increased military force" against the terrorist group. "Tonight we returned to fighting in Gaza due to Hamas' refusal to release the hostages and threats to harm IDF soldiers and Israeli communities. If Hamas does not release all the hostages, the gates of hell will open in Gaza," Katz detailed in the statement. Similarly, the statement explained that the airstrikes are targeting different areas of the Gaza Strip, including Beit Hanoun, Al-Zaytoun, Al-Bureij, Al-Karama, Nuseirat, Deir al-Balah, Khan Yunis and Rafah.

Leavitt's statements.

During an interview with Fox News, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt revealed that the U.S. Government was consulted by Israelon the execution of airstrikes against the Palestinian terrorist group, emphasizing that all lawless organizations that threaten both their country and Israel will suffer the consequences.

"As President Trump has made it clear - Hamas, the Houthis, Iran, all those who seek to terrorize not just Israel, but also the United States of America, will see a price to pay. All hell will break loose," Leavitt said during his interview on the U.S. network.

Hamas statement

For its part, Hamas issued a statement in which it denounced the airstrikes and condemned the decision by Netanyahu and the Israeli government to resume the "vile aggression" against Gaza, adding that this act exposed the hostages to "an unknown fate." The terrorist group also urged the governments of Egypt, Qatar and the United States - which are the main mediators in the armed conflict - to hold Israel's prime minister solely and exclusively responsible for ending the cease-fire.

In another part of the communiqué, Hamas called on all Arab and Muslim countries in the Middle East to give their support to the "Palestinian resistance"in order to "break the blockade imposed on Gaza". Finally, the terrorist group requested the United Nations Security Council to urgently convene a session to issue a resolution forcing the Israeli government to put an end to its "aggression".

Different media have reported that, for the moment, 34 people have died as a result of the airstrikes, and more than 100 have been wounded.
