China: earthquake leaves more than 130 dead and more than 500 injured
The number of victims may increase due to the number of missing people. Authorities have recorded more than 300 aftershocks.
An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 on the Richter scale in China has so far left more than 130 dead and around 536 injured, although authorities expect the numbers to increase due to the number of people whose whereabouts are unknown. More than 300 aftershocks have been recorded.
Apart from the fatalities and injuries, the earthquake caused damage to thousands of properties and damage to water and electricity infrastructure.
Xi Jinping, President of China, ordered the deployment of thousands of emergency services officials to the affected areas in an effort to intensify search and rescue efforts for the missing and reinforce care for the injured.
Taiwan offers help to China
Despite the tensions between both countries, the government of Taiwan has offered help to the Chinese communist regime to collaborate in repairing damage and in rescuing missing persons.
