YouTube TV and Fox Corp. reached a short-term agreement Wednesday that, for the time being, will keep the company's networks on the streaming service. In a statement, YouTubeTV confirmed the agreement and noted that it was entirely "committed to advocating on behalf of our subscribers as we work toward a fair deal and will keep you updated on our progress." While the current contract between the two parties was due to end this Wednesday, the statement from the Google-owned subscription service did not make it entirely clear by when this new temporary dealwould expire.

The new deal comes shortly after Fox launched its first direct-to-consumer streaming service, called Fox One. That service plans to broadcast the first week's games of the NFL next weekend, in what different media have described as a move that could end up bringing numerous benefits to Fox, as it is one of the most important and widely followed sports periods in the United States. In addition, Fox's new direct-to-consumer streaming service will broadcast some of the most important college soccer games during Labor Day in the country, opening up the possibilities of reaching a large number of both views and new subscribers, as it is a holiday.

Strong crossover between the two

The new agreement between the two parties comes after YouTube TV warned on Monday that it planned to remove any and all Fox content from its channel lineup, amid a fierce ongoing dispute over broadcast rights. The Google-owned subscription service went so far as to comment that among the content it planned to remove was including major content such as Fox Sports, the Fox broadcast network, as well as Fox News.

In response to YouTube TV's warning, Fox responded with a statement in which it expressed its displeasure with that message, strongly criticizing the streaming service and stating that it was extremely "disappointed that Google continually exploits its outsized influence by proposing terms that are out of step with the marketplace."
