The premiere of the new Meta AI Ray-Bans ends in fiasco
Zuckerberg blamed the failures of his new flagship product during the event on the wifi settings.

Mark Zuckerberg isn’t seeing clearly (quite literally) with his new flagship product. The presentation of the Meta AI Glasses ended up being a considerable fiasco, exposing the Facebook and Instagram creator himself, who personally unveiled his latest gadget before spectators.
What that crowd of people expected was to discover "innovative smart glasses, codenamed Hypernova." The first disappointment was to encounter an update of the pre-existing Ray-Ban Meta frames, as well as a new set of Oakley specially designed for sports, (the Meta Vanguard) and the new model, baptized Meta Ray-Bans.
Problems with the presentation
The worst part, however, came during the demonstration of Zuckerberg’s new toy, set to go on sale September 30 for $799. The Meta CEO took the stage wearing a pair of Meta Ray-Bans along with a lightweight wristband called the Meta Neural Band, which captures wrist movements and "allows words to be entered on the smart glasses screen" as if writing by hand.
At that point a WhatsApp video call from Meta's CTO, Andrew 'Boz' Bosworth, appeared on the glasses. However, Zuckerberg's Neural Band interface wasn't able to accept the call and Boz had to alter the presentations planned call and make a live appearance on stage.
A video recorded to show the virtues that failed live
The next upset came with the presentation of the "LiveAI function" of the glasses. When required to instruct a presenter on how to make a sauce with all the ingredients in front of it, the device stuck with "now that you've made the base...," ignoring the presenter's repeated requests for instructions on how to make precisely that base.
Zuckerberg ended up blaming WiFi for the demo's failure, but provided no explanation as to why his Meta Ray-Bans couldn't receive Boz's call. Seeing the live problems, it ended up airing a recorded video purporting to show the use of Meta Ray-Bans to design a surfboard and order parts.
Zuckerberg: "AI-enabled glasses will eventually replace smartphones"
However, despite the live glitches, Zuckerberg expressed confidence that this type of gadget will eventually even replace mobile phones. Moreover, these glasses follow the line with which Zuckerberg has pledged his future and that of his company, the metaverse, as he himself emphasized during the presentation:
"Our goal is to create compelling glasses that offer personal superintelligence and a sense of presence using realistic holograms. These combined ideas are what we call the metaverse."
