FC Cincinnati-Tigres. CONCACAF Champions Cup
There is good news for Mexican soccer as the Tigres and Pumas won their games in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup round of 16, both under new head coaches.
Tigres, led by Argentine Guido Pizarro—who had been in charge for just two days—managed to secure a 1-1 tie against FC Cincinnati on the road.
The American side struck early, taking the lead just three minutes into the game. Czech midfielder Pavel Bucha put FC Cincinnati ahead with a well-placed shot from the edge of the area.
However, the Americans' excitement was short-lived. In the 17th minute, Argentine Nicolás Ibáñez scored the tie point with a header.
In Mexico, Pumas, with Efraín Juárez coaching his first game from the bench, secured a 2-0 victory against Alajuelense, giving them a comfortable advantage heading into the second leg.
In the 38th minute, Uruguayan Robert Ergas gave Pumas the lead in the first leg with a well-placed shot from inside the box.
In the second half, Argentina's Rogelio Funes Mori scored the winning point with a header in the 73rd minute.
In the other game of the day, Los Angeles FC beat the Colombus Crew 3-0. Denis Bouanga scored twice, while Nathan Ordaz scored another point for Los Angeles.
