The NBA transfer market is red hot in its final hours before closing. Some moves have shaken the foundations of franchises aiming to climb higher this season, while others have bolstered rosters, strengthening their championship aspirations.

Undoubtedly the trade between the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers is the most outstanding. The Texan franchise decided, to the surprise of the basketball planet, to part with Luka Doncic, its star. The Slovenian led the Mavs to a runner-up finish last season, as well as being one of the best players in the world right now.

In exchange, the Mavericks received Anthony Davis, one of the best center players in the world but without the ability to be the natural leader of a franchise. In this trade, other players were involved -such as Maxi Kleber, Markieff Morris and Max Christie- as well as future draft picks and another franchise, the Utah Jazz.

Another relevant transfer in this market is that of Jimmy Butler. After leading the Miami Heat -who pushed him aside in recent months due to confrontations with management- to the NBA Finals in 2023 -losing to the Denver Nuggets- the Houston-born (Texas) basketballer travels from the East Coast to the West Coast to wear the Golden State Warriors jersey and keep company with Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and company. His goal, which was to defend the colors of the Phoenix Suns, did not come to fruition. In return, the Warriors sent Andrew Wiggins to Miami.

The move that, finally, was not executed was that of Kevin Durant. Rumors suggested that the former NBA superstar of the past decade would leave the Suns to sign with the Warriors.

If the San Antonio Spurs want to return to being one of the NBA's top franchises, as they were in the early 21st century—with players like Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, and Manu Ginóbili among others—they know that Victor Wembanyama alone won’t be enough. Currently, they sit outside the playoff spots. To improve their chances, they have acquired De'Aaron Fox -from the Sacramento Kings- in an effort to climb the standings and secure a postseason spot.

Brandon Ingram left the New Orleans Pelicans and crossed the northern border to join the Toronto Raptors. Kyle Kuzma leaves the Washington Wizards and will play with Giannis Antetokounmpo on the Milwaukee Bucks.
