LeBron James looks on at a 3-point attempt against the Wizards.
A 42-point first quarter led the way to a 134-96 victory for the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday against the Washington Wizards, in a Thursday NBA matchup in which LeBron James once again put on a show. In Cleveland, the Cavaliers regained momentum and crushed the Atlanta Hawks (137-115).
Against the Wizards, the team with the worst record in the league, James recorded the 595th double-double of his career, with 24 points and 11 assists. At 40 years old, the Lakers' star player has nine consecutive games scoring at least 20 points.
The Lakers had no trouble covering the absence of Anthony Davis, out due to an abdominal strain suffered on Tuesday that will keep him out of action for at least a week. The Lakers have three wins in their last four games, all played away from home because of the Grammy Awards to be held this weekend at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Washington is in last place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 6-41 and is the only team on the season with 40 or more losses. Against the Lakers, Jordan Poole was the Wizards' leading scorer with 19 points.
Garland puts the Cavaliers back on the winning track

Cleveland got its second win in as many nights after beating the Miami Heat on Wednesday. Against Atlanta, they shot 58% from the field, making 53 of their 91 shots.
For the Hawks, Trae Young scored 15 points and had 10 assists on a disappointing night for the point guard, who was one of the candidates for the All-Star Game.
