MLB: Padres and Phillies win Game 2 and tie playoff series
Black night for Ohtani, who went hitless in four attempts and saw the Dodgers suffer a considerable thrashing (10x2).
Nick Castellanos and Dominican Fernando Tatis Jr. were the main figures in the Philadelphia Phillies' and San Diego Padres' victories over the Mets and Dodgers, respectively, on Sunday in two Major League Baseball divisional series that were tied 1-1. On the other hand, Shohei Ohtani, who shined in his playoff debut with a home run, had a night to forget in his team's team's painful loss to their fellow Californian team by10x2.
Tatis, 25, managed to collect his second and third home runs of the postseason. He is currently batting for a .643 average in the four playoff games he has played so far, with nine hits, including three home runs and five RBIs.
The other side of the coin was Ohtani. The Japanese superstar, who had hit a home run in the first game of the series and the first of his playoff career, went hitless after four at-bats.
The best-of-three series will continue Tuesday at Petco Park in San Diego, Calif.
Castellanos, hero of the Phillies
With an unstoppable run by Nick Castellanos, the Philadelphia Phillies won 7x6 over the New York Mets and thus tied their Divisional Series. In an electrifying game in Philadelphia, Castellanos, 32, finished the game with two hits and three RBIs.
"It's unbelievable," Castellanos said after the game. "The series is tied, we have to turn the page and focus on Game 3."
First it was the Phillies who went up on the scoreboard by scoring three runs in an unlucky outing for Puerto Rico's Edwin Diaz, who added all three scores to his personal tally.
The Mets didn't let up and through a two-run home run by Mark Vientos tied the game at six apiece. Vientos, 24, whose mother is Nicaraguan and father is Dominican, was a star for the Mets with two runs scored, three hits and four runs batted in.
The final word came from Castellanos, who hit to left field for Trea Turner to score the final and decisive run of the game. The final line leaves Jeff Hoffman(1-0) with the win whileTylor Megill (0-1) takes his first loss in the first postseason game of his career.
Game 3 will be played Tuesday at Citi Field in Queens, New York.
