A man was arrested Wednesday in the state of Massachusetts for multiple death threats against U.S. President Donald Trump via Facebook, the state prosecutor's office said.
According to a statement from the prosecutor's office, the suspect, Andrew Emerald, 45, posted between May and July 2025 eight messages in which he threatened to kill or injure the Republican, whom he described as a "monster."
In his postings, he vowed to chase Trump to his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida and "reduce it to ashes."
A saber before surrendering
Emerald was arrested at his home in Great Barrington, a small town of 7,000 residents in Massachusetts (northeast). He initially tried to resist and wielded a saber before surrendering to FBI agents, according to court documents.
During the search of the house, officers found several bladed weapons: in addition to the saber, a sword, a machete and several knives.
Up to five years in prison and fines of $250,000
The man was charged with eight counts of transmitting threatening communications between states, an offense that carries penalties of up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines.
In March, a Virginia man was sentenced to more than two years in prison for sending death threats to the president.
Trump suffered anassassination attempt in July 2024, when a man shot at him at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
