The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported that they have reached more than 1,000 agreements with state and local law enforcement agencies to address illegal immigrant criminality.

Thus, agreements - from the 287(g) program - of this type increased by 641%. They went from 135 agreements to 1,001. The partnerships were achieved, according to DHS, through a program that was created after the approval of President Donald Trump's Big Beautiful Bill and allows it to offer reimbursement to law enforcement that joins DHS in its anti-crime efforts.

"ICE is not only supercharging our hiring, we are also multiplying partnerships with state and local law enforcement to remove the worst of the worst including murderers, gang members, rapists, terrorists, and pedophiles from our country. Thanks to the One Big Beautiful Bill, ICE launched a new reimbursement program for state and local law enforcement who partner with DHS to make America safe again," said ICE Deputy Director Madison Sheahan.

In that regard, DHS assured that under Kristi Noem's leadership, ICE intensified efforts with state and local law enforcement to assist federal immigration officials in the Trump Administration's efforts to make America safe again.

In addition, officials said that from border counties to big-city police departments, more than 1,000 state and local law enforcement agencies in 40 states are now collaborating directly with DHS and ICE to protect their communities.

"These historic partnerships are a force multiplier for DHS as the Administration continues to use every tool in its toolbox to find, arrest, and deport criminal illegal aliens," DHS highlighted.

Reimbursement

Beginning October 1, 2025, participating law enforcement will have these reimbursement opportunities :

ICE will fully reimburse participating agencies for the annual salary and benefits of each trained and eligible 287(g) officer, including overtime coverage of up to 25% of the officer's annual salary.

Law enforcement agencies will be eligible to receive quarterly monetary performance benefits based on successful placement of illegal immigrants provided by ICE and general assistance in the furtherance of ICE's mission:
    • 90% - 100% - $1,000 per eligible task force officer.
    • 80% - 89% - $750 per eligible task force officer.
    • 70% - 79% - $500 per eligible task force officer.

ICE receives more than 150,000 applications to join its security forces

The announcement about the agreements coincides with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reporting that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has received more than 150,000 applications from individuals wishing to join the service to help apprehend and remove all those criminals from the streets who have entered the country illegally.

"ICE has received more than 150,000 applications from patriotic Americans who wish to defend the homeland by removing the worst illegal alien criminals from the United States," said Secretary Kristi Noem on X.
