Mega Millions Lottery Leaves $1.2 Billion Winner in California
The winner purchased the ticket at a gas station in the town of Conttonwood, about 210 miles north of Sacramento.
A lottery ticket with a grand prize of $1.22 billion, the fifth largest jackpot in history, was sold by the Mega Millions lottery, the draw organizer announced Saturday.
According to Mega Millions, one of the most popular lotteries in the country, the ticket was sold in the state of California. The winning numbers, revealed Friday, are: 3, 7, 37, 37, 49, 55 and 6.
The identity of the prize winner is not yet known, nor is it known whether the winner is aware that he or she has the winning ticket or will claim his or her prize.
The winner bought the ticket at a gas station in the town of Conttonwood, about 210 kilometers north of Sacramento, the California state capital, according to Mega Millions.
The prize can be claimed in full in the form of annual payments over 30 years or in a one-time cash payment of $549.7 million (about 527 million euros) before taxes.
This sum represents the fifth largest jackpot in the history of Mega Millions, which sells lottery tickets in 45 of the 50 states.
The largest jackpot in history was a $2.04 billion jackpot.
