Eight of the 10 safest cities in the U.S. are in Florida

U.S. News & World Report compiled a ranking based on the murder rate and the number of crimes committed.

New Orleans, Baltimore, Milwaukee and Cleveland are some of the most dangerous cities in the United States, due to the high rate of homicides and crimes recorded annually. On the other hand, it is also necessary to determine which are the safest, with low levels of crime and murder.

A report by U.S. News & World Report lists the safest cities in the country and reveals that eight of the top 10 are in Florida.

1. Naples, Fla.

Located in Collier County, Naples had only one murder in 2019, the last year for which there is data reflected on the FBI website. It had a population of 22,369 inhabitants. It is one of the cities with the largest number of millionaires in the United States.

2. Port St. John St. Lucie, Fla.

In this town of 199,453 people located in St. Lucie County, the FBI recorded seven murders in 2019.

3. Fort Myers, Fla.

Located in Lee County, nine murders were committed in this city in 2019. It had a population of 85,127 inhabitants.

4. Portland, Maine

Not to be confused with Oregon's most populous city, this town of 66,458 people located in Cumberland County had seven people murdered in 2019, according to FBI records.

5. Lakeland, Fla.

In 2019, there were seven murders that occurred in this city of 112,237 citizens located in Polk County.

6. Tampa, Fla.

It is the third most populated city in Florida (400,501 people). Located in Hillsborough County, the FBI recorded 31 murders in 2019.

7. Sarasota, Fla.

Located in Sarasota County, the city counted 58,470 in 2019. The FBI recorded four murders.

8. Worcester, Mass.

Known for having a great student atmosphere, this town located in Worcester County saw thirteen murders in 2019, according to FBI data. It had a population of 184,945 inhabitants.

9. Daytona Beach, Fla.

With a population of 69,834 citizens, this city located in Volusia County is famous for hosting two of the most important international motorsports events: the 24 Hours of Daytona and the Daytona 500. Thirteen murders occurred here in 2019.

10. Ocala, Fla.

At the bottom of the list, seven murders were committed in this Marion County town three years ago. It had 60,932 registered citizens.
