Ocasio-Cortez paints her nails to rebel against the system
She considers doing her nails as an act of vindication. She argues that she grew up in a "very religious" environment.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez dresses the daily act of getting a manicure as a vindication. The congresswoman surprised with a story on Instagram in which she pointed out that painting her nails is "an act of personal recovery".
Users of other social networks such as Twitter shared the congresswoman's story. One of them was @johnrobertgage
The Democratic congresswoman, addressed her audience of 8. 6 million followers on the social network to indicate that with that personal act she was performing a recovery of her personal history. The official used a forced analogy to express that "sometimes people say, 'There's nothing I can do, I feel powerless'...no act is too small that you can participate in," and encouraged viewers to look for ways to reclaim autonomy.
Ocasio-Cortez argued her particular vindictive speech about manicuring, explaining that she grew up in a "very religious" environment, where she would have been forbidden to paint her nails red because it was considered indicative of being too "loose" and recounted that she was only able to do so when she graduated and left home.
"The red nails, the red lipstick, it just kind of portrays a message about what kind of woman you are, and I think a lot of times, that kind of woman who is unruly often translates as loose." For her, that act represents a decision that "no one else can tell me what I should do with my body."

The official, who earns a salary of $174,000 a year, reappeared just days after the historic ruling overturning Roe v. Wade in June 2022. Ocasio-Cortez expressed public outrage when she learned of the news and called for the removal of what she describes as obstructionism in the Senate, and called for people to approach the court to counter the decision.
