The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced Wednesday the addition of former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson as senior adviser on Nutrition and Housing. USDA Secretary Brooke L. Rollins stressed that his expertise will be key to advancing the Trump Administration's policies aimed at improving the quality of life for Americans.

Rollins stressed that Carson will bring a comprehensive vision to address two of the country's main challenges: poor nutrition and housing problems, especially in rural communities. According to the official, her addition will be critical to implementing the rural health provisions included in the One Big Beautiful Act and advancing the priorities of the America First agenda.

Carson's role in the new phase.

As national advisor, Carson will be responsible for guiding President Trump and Secretary Rollins on issues linked to nutrition, access to rural health care, and affordable housing. He will also serve as the USDA's chief spokesperson on these issues and will work in coordination with the President's "Make America Healthy Again" Commission.

Carson himself assured that poor nutrition is directly affecting millions of Americans and that his work will focus on offering practical solutions that strengthen the most vulnerable families. "Today, too many Americans are suffering from the effects of poor nutrition. Through common-sense policymaking, we have an opportunity to give our most vulnerable families the tools they need to flourish," she said.

A Career in Medicine and Public Service

A renowned pediatric neurosurgeon, Carson led the division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Center for nearly three decades, where he achieved international notoriety after leading pioneering procedures such as the separation of craniopagus twins. His medical career made him one of the most prominent figures in his field and earned him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the country.

In the political arena, Carson served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. He is also the founder and president of the American Cornerstone Institute.
