Donald Trump
The start of the trade war has had little impact on President Donald Trump’s approval ratings. Despite the stock market chaos caused by the reciprocal tariffs, disapproval (49.8%) of the president's administration is barely 2.1% higher than the number of people who support his job (47.7%) on average.
According to the poll aggregator Real Clear Politics, since the presentation of the tables with the levies to be applied to each country last April 2, the worst result for Trump was an average disapproval of 50.1% of voters, compared to an endorsement of 47.5% (-2.6%).
Figures above even Trump's best numbers during his first term according to RCP. During his previous four years in the White House, the best approval rating was 47.4% on April 1, 2020.
Trump approval gains in several of the latest polls
Polls in recent weeks have reflected the prevailing confusion at the moment for the American voter, who is seeing how Trump's major economic bets are are triggering turmoil in the global economy. Thus, despite the fact that disapproval is in the majority, there are not few polls in which there are more who support the work of the Administration.
This is the case of the Harvard-Harris poll of March 27, in which the president's approval stood at 49%, three points above those who disapprove of his work. Even more positive was the balance recorded by RMG Research on April 3 (+4, 51%-47%). The last poll giving Trump's management a thumbs-up is that of the Daily Mail, also on April 3, which is also the one in which the Republican looks best.
According to this newspaper, the gap would be 6 points in favor of the Republican. Up to 53% of the 1,000 people polled approved of Trump's job, compared to 47% who disapproved. The media's turnaround is notable, since just a week earlier it gave a -2% approval rating to the president (49-51%).
Reuters signs the poll with Trump's highest disapproval
On the other hand, Reuters-Ipsos published a poll showing a significantly higher level of disapproval toward the current White House policies. In its April 2nd survey, the British news agency recorded a 10-point gap, with 53% disapproving of the former president compared to 43% who approved.
