The mayor of New York called on the Biden administration to "control the border" and declare a state of emergency to tackle the immigrant crisis that the country, especially New York City is currently facing. Shelters have been at capacity since last week. Since then, hundreds of migrants have been sleeping on the streets.

"We need to declare a state of emergency"

During a press conference Adams reiterated that he has been calling on the federal administration to provide the city with the funds it needs to deal with the wave of immigrants arriving to the city. He also criticized Joe Biden and Secretary if the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas’ immigrations policy. He called on them to get the situation at the border under control:

We need to control the border. We need to call a state of emergency, and we need to properly fund this national crisis. We need help. And it’s not going to get any better. From this moment on it’s downhill. There is no more room. I was at the Roosevelt on Saturday, and I went there on Sunday. They lined up around the block, hurting the businesses there; this is not going to get better. We put buses there for cooling systems, but it is just not sustainable. And I’m just real.

Increase in crime and incidents

New Yorkers are suffering the consequences. In addition to the increase in crime and incidents involving illegal immigrants, for the past few days hundreds of immigrants have been crowding the streets in front of makeshift shelters.
