Rep. Matt Gaetz demanded that Attorney General Merrick Garland report the names of everyone in special prosecutor Jack Smith's office investigating Donald Trump for the case of classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago.

The Florida Republican sent Garland a letter Tuesday explaining that at least one of the prosecutors on the team investigating Trump contributed to President Biden's 2020 campaign and faced misconduct charges in 2009.

Because of this, the congressman requested Smith's office structure include "all staff rosters, phone lists, or similar records, within the custody or control of the Department of Justice, depicting all employees hired." Gaetz gave him until July 7 to deliver all the information and make it known to the U.S. public as well.

"While there are innumerable valid legislative purposes for this request, it should be obvious that doing due diligence in vetting an office that has apparently done no vetting of its own personnel, or worse, might affirmatively be seeking to staff with sanctioned lawyers and partisan hatchet-men (and women), is an entirely appropriate purpose," the congressman stated in his letter, adding that failure to meet the request could mean that Congress could stop funding Smith's office.

The prosecutor who donated thousands of dollars to Biden and Obama

According to Gaetz, Karen Gilbert, who is currently one of Smith's deputies, resigned as head of the narcotics section of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida following alleged misconduct.

According to Federal Election Commission records, Gilbert donated more than $2,000 to the past campaigns of Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama.
