Democrats choose Chicago, the capital of crime, for 2024 convention
Republicans have used the city as a benchmark for the consequences of leftist policies.
The Democratic National Committee announced Tuesday that the 2024 National Convention will be held in Chicago, a city that has consistently been used as a reference by Republicans to point out the consequences of Democratic policies.
"Chicago is a great choice to host the 2024 Democratic National Convention. Democrats will gather to showcase our historic progress including building an economy from the middle out and bottom up, not from the top down," expressed President Joe Biden on the convention to be held August 19-22 next year.
The blue party chose a state that has been predominantly Democratic, having not voted for a Republican presidential candidate since 1988. However, their political failures have even led voters to rethink their choice of leaders. It should be recalled that during the last mayoral election, the high crime rate in the country's so-called "crime capital" became such a determining factor that voters chose to rule out the re-election of Mayor Lori Lightfoot.
Republicans react
Shortly after the location of the upcoming Democratic National Convention was announced, House Republicans released the most recent violent crime statistics for the city.
"What's the bigger concern: Sirens drowning out nominating speeches or what items attendees must leave at home to make room for their bulletproof vest in their suitcase?" commented Will Reinert, press secretary for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
For her part, the president of the Republican National Committee, Ronna McDaniel, recalled via Twitter that the Democratic agenda in Chicago is precisely what has caused the closing of schools and businesses, as well as the increase in violent crime and the migration of its population.
"It’s the perfect symbol for what Democrat 'leadership' has to offer," she said.
