Congressman George Santos' office issued a press release falsely claiming that he was sworn in on Tuesday. The note was published on the official website of the Chamber of Santos and has already been withdrawn. It now reads “You are not authorized to access this page.”

The congressman already lied about significant parts of his past during his election campaign, and now, he claims to have been sworn in by the Speaker of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, January 3.

Although it is no longer posted on the Santos website, a screenshot has been disseminated by those who caught a glimpse of it. And it reads as follows:

U.S. Representative George Santos was sworn in as a Member of the United States House of Representatives by the Speaker of the House on January 3rd, 2023. The Honorable George Santos was elected to serve as Representative of New York’s 3rd Congressional District. Representative George Santos was added to the rolls of the House upon executing the oath of office.

Santos was unable to take the oath of office on Tuesday, the first day of the 118th Congress, due to the House's inability to elect a representative . Olivia Beavers of Politico reported that the House Chief Administrative Officer issued the statement “without some offices knowing about it.”
