Texas: Abbott calls for investigation into irregularities in Harris County

Published by

Texas Gov, Greg Abbott, asked Monday for explanations regarding voting irregularities in Harris County. He did so in a statement in which the Republican demanded that an investigation be carried out to explain the problems they detected during the midterms:

I'm calling on the Secretary of State, the Attorney General's Office, and the Texas Rangers to initiate investigations into allegations of improprieties in the way that the 2022 elections were conducted in Harris County. The allegations of election improprieties in our state's largest county may result from anything ranging from malfeasance to blatant criminal conduct. Voters in Harris County deserve to know what happened. Integrity in the election process is essential. To achieve that standard, a thorough investigation is warranted.

Irregularities that, according to the governor, generated discomfort among voters as they were "were frustrated by confusion and delays including missing keys, insufficient paper ballots in Republican precincts, staffing problems, and more."

Harris County also includes voting in Houston. The city, the fourth most populous in Texas, has many different congressional districts that are entitled to representation in Washington, so the voting irregularities reported by citizens could be decisive.

GOP Files Lawsuit Against Harris County

On the same day that Abbott alleged irregularities, the Republican Party filed a 22-page lawsuit against Harris County and, specifically, its election administrator, Clifford Tatum.

Harris County Republican Party election attorney and legal counsel, Andy Taylor, was in charge of conveying the news in declarations collected by Fox 26 that stated that "this election was so botched that there’s no way to be confident in the outcomes in the close races. You literally cannot ascertain the winner vs. the loser."
