Zoe Saldaña, the actress in four of the highest-grossing movies in history
The Dominican actress was part of the cast of 'Avatar' and the last two 'Avengers' movies.
Zoe Saldaña has just achieved a major box office milestone. She is the only actress to appear in four of the movies that grossed more than $2 billion at the box office. Her roles in Avatar, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Avatar and the Way of Water earned her this unique record that was echoed on Marvel Dato’s Twitter profile.
The Dominican-American actress was in four of the six highest-grossing movies in history and, in all of them, she played an important role in the plot. In the Marvel saga, Avengers, it is true that she didn’t appear as much but her character was just as important to the development of both films as she played Thanos' daughter, Gamora.
On the other hand, in the two movies directed by James Cameron, she plays the main character, Neytiri, the princess of the planet Pandora. Her performance, as
The Direct points out, received a number of accolades from critics and audiences alike for her ability to convey such realistic emotions despite the complexity of using motion-capture technology.
Saldaña, part of three major franchises
In addition to Avengers and Avatar, the Hispanic performer also appeared in another one of the most important franchises: Star Trek. Saldaña played Lieutenant Uhura in 2009, the same year when Cameron's saga was released, in the Star Trek reboot directed by J. J. Abrams. She reprised the role for the film's two sequels released in 2013 and 2016.
In fact, she herself told Deadline that recently she has felt "stuck in franchises," which is why her name is recurrent in these film sagas:
Saldaña returns in 'Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3'
She made a statement reported by Comic Book Resources that although the roles she has been cast to play require hours and hours of sitting and being made up as she brings alien women to life, she wouldn't mind not having to do this in the future. Even so, she doesn't think it's time to say goodbye to Gamora just yet:
She will play the role again in just a few months, when Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 is released in theaters on May 5 and we can once again watch Zoe Saldaña play Gamora.
