U.S. aircraft manufacturer Boeing announced that it will put tens of thousands of employees on rotating technical stoppage, in the middle of the strike that some 33,000 workers are maintaining in the northwest of the country.

In a message to employees, the company's president, Kelly Ortberg, pointed out that the measure will affect all levels of activity in the United States. The executive specified that, "to limit the impact," the affected employees will have one week of technical stoppage every four, AFP reports.

On Monday, the aviation giant announced heavy spending cuts in response to the strike. Among the measures announced were temporary furloughs and hiring freezes, as well as some wage increases.

Some 94.6% of Boeing workers represented by the IAM District 751 union rejected the draft collective bargaining agreement announced on September 8 and96% approved the work stoppage.

The strike, which began with the expiration of the previous collective bargaining agreement on Thursday of last week at midnight, paralyzes two major Boeing assembly plants in Renton and Everett, which produce the 737 MAX-the best-selling aircraft, the 777 cargo carrier, and the 767 military tanker, whose deliveries are already suffering delays.

Negotiations end without agreement

The union reported Wednesday night that talks ended without a result. "Mediation has concluded today with no resolution reached," it said in a statement. "We remain open to further talks, there are no additional dates scheduled."

The last strike at Boeing, which employs a total of about 170,000 people, was in 2008 and lasted 57 days.
