Joe Biden and the Democratic Party have attacked the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement once again. With five days to go before the midterm elections, during a Democratic National Committee event at Union Station in Washington, the president again accused pro-Trump Republicans of being a "threat" to democracy. He called on the people to vote for the Democratic Party to prevent MAGA from dominating Congress:

Biden's attacks have intensified as the election nears. In September, the president noted that "Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the foundations of our Republic." On the other hand, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre shared Biden's words and pointed out that "MAGA is an extreme threat to democracy, freedom, and our rights." Verbal assaults by Democrats went beyond the pale: Ohio Democratic Senate candidate Tim Ryan claimed that his party needed to "kill" the Republican movement.

On this occasion, Biden alluded to the assault on Paul Pelosi, Nancy Pelosi's husband, and again blamed the Republican movement despite the fact that the alleged attacker is a progressive activist who has no ties to the GOP:

This violence against Democrats, Republicans, and nonpartisan officials just doing their jobs are the consequence of lies told for power and profit. Lies repeated over and over to generate a cycle of anger, hate, vitriol, and even violence.

Criticism of Biden's speech

Representatives of the Republican Party criticized Biden's attacks. House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy blamed Biden for wanting to divide American society:

For his part, Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell criticized Biden for thinking that democracy only works when the Democratic Party is in power:

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel said that "the president Joe Biden promised unity but has instead demonized and smeared Americans." She added that "Biden and Democrats are flailing in the final days because they have lost touch with the concerns of families struggling to get by."

Marjorie Taylor Greene, congresswoman from Georgia, added her voice to the criticism of her colleagues:

Joe Biden just proved to Americans that he doesn’t care that you can’t afford gas, can’t afford food, that our borders are invaded, and you're victims of crime just like Paul Pelosi. They only care about attacking Trump. That’s it. Trump didn’t cause our problems, Biden did.
