56% of Americans believe motherhood is the most important role in a woman's life

This percentage rises to 68% among those who identify as Republican voters.

A majority of Americans consider being a mother to be the most important role for women in today's society. This was the result of a recent survey carried out among 1,059 adults, with a margin of error of 3% and a reliability rate of 95%. Fifty-six percent of Americans believe that in today's society, the most important thing for women in life is to be a mother, while in 2018, only 52% believed so. Thirty percent of respondents believed the opposite, and 14% were unsure.

Mother's Day, celebrated this past Sunday in the United States, was one reason why Americans were asked about this the Rasmussen survey. Thirty-four percent of citizens believe Mother’s Day is one of the most important days in the country, while in 2018, this figure was only 31%. Thirteen percent believe it is not important, and 49% place it in the middle. The Rasmussen report highlights that the most important holiday for Americans continues to be Christmas, followed closely by the Fourth of July.

Sixty-eight percent of respondents who say they vote Republican consider being a mother to be the most important thing in life, compared to 47% of Democrats and 55% of independent voters. However, 42% of Democrats and only 32% of Republicans consider Mother's Day to be one of the most important days of the year. The same is true for 28% of independent voters.

By gender, 38% of men and 30% of women consider Mother's Day to be one of the most important celebrations. "Men under 40 are the most likely to consider Mother's Day as one of the most important holidays, while women over 40 are the most likely to say that motherhood is the most important role they can play in their lives," Rasmussen's report concludes.
