56% of Americans believe motherhood is the most important role in a woman's life
This percentage rises to 68% among those who identify as Republican voters.
Most Americans consider being a mother to be the most important role a woman can play in today's society. This is the result of a recent survey carried out among 1,059 adults, with a margin of error of 3% and a reliability rate of 95%, which yields a result of 56% of Americans who believe that in today's society, the most important thing in life is to be a mother, while in 2018, only 52% believed so.. Four more points in favor of motherhood in the last five years. Thirty percent of respondents believed the opposite and 14% were doubtful when asked.
Mother's Day, celebrated this past Sunday in the United States, was another issue Americans were asked about in the Rasmussen survey. 34% of citizens believe that it is "one of the most important days in the country", while in 2018 it was only 31%. 13% believe it is not important and 49% would place it in the middle of the table. The Rasmussen report highlights that the most important holiday for Americans continues to be Christmas, followed closely by the Fourth of July holiday.
Sixty-eight percent of respondents who say they vote Republican consider being a mother to be the most important thing in life, compared to 47% of Democrats and 55% of independent voters. However, 42% of Democrats - and only 32% of Republicans - consider Mother's Day to be one of the most important days of the year. The same is true for 28% of independent voters.
By gender, 38% of men and 30% of women consider Mother's Day to be one of the most important celebrations. "Men under 40 are the most likely to consider Mother's Day as one of the most important holidays, while women over 40 are the most likely to say that motherhood is the most important role they can play in their lives," Rasmussen's report concludes.
