Actress Suzanne Somers died this Sunday at the age of 76. The actress was famous for her roll on the sitcom "Three's Company," which aired on ABC Network between 1977 and 1981. She died after a 23-year battle with breast cancer.
Her publicist, R. Couri Hay, announced the sad news in a press release that he released on behalf of Somers' family. In the letter, shared by NBC, Hay announced that the actress died the night before her 77th birthday, surrounded by her entire family, including her husband Alan, her son, Bruce, and the rest of her loved ones.
Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years. (...) Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly.

As the statement says, Suzanne Somers was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2000. She thought she had beat it, but in July of this year, she announced on her Instagram account that the cancer had returned:

Somers' working life
Suzanne Somers was one of the best-known actresses of the 1970s. She began her acting career in 1968. She started out small and often went uncredited, but in 1977 she made it big when she signed on for ABC Network's sitcom, "Three's Company." In it, she played one of the main characters, Christmas "Chrissy" Snow, a role she held for five of the sitcom's eight seasons.
Prior to this, she played small roles in series such as "The Rockford Files," "Magnum Force" and "The Six Million Dollar Man." In 1981 she momentarily left television and moved to Las Vegas, where she performed in various shows. In 1991 she returned to the small screen and obtained a leading role in "Step by Step." There she played Carol Foster Lambert, a widow and mother of three who works as a stylist in addition to being the owner of her own beauty salon.
