Although preliminary reports indicated that Moreno was transgender, investigators eventually identified her as a woman and the biological mother of a 7-year-old child.
According to records, Moreno has a long criminal record with previous convictions for assaulting authorities (2009) and falsifying documents (2010). Authorities continue to investigate the motives that led the attacker attempt to perpetrate a massacre at Lakewood Church.
The attack occurred this Sunday during a Spanish-language service. The shooter entered the megachurch armed with an AR-15 rifle accompanied by a five-year-old child. She also said she was carrying a bomb. Before she could go on a killing spree, two off-duty police officers responded and shot her, killing her on the spot. The child was wounded in the process and is in critical condition. Emergency services reported another injured person who has already been discharged from the hospital.
