Taylor Swift and Shakira shine at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards

The 'Anti-Hero' singer won nine awards. Shakira was the first Hispanic American to win the Video Vanguardia Award.

The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards  (MTV VMAs) had a clear star who stole the show. Taylor Swift was the big winner of this year's awards ceremony after winning nine of her 11 nominations.

The singer born in Pennsylvania in 1989 was the star of the evening thanks to her hit Anti-Hero, included in her album Midnights (2022). She won awards in the following categories: Best Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, Summer Show, Album of the Year and, most importantly, Video of the Year.


Shakira
was another one of the big stars of the evening. She is the first Hispanic American performer to receive the Video Vanguardia Award.

The awards ceremony, hosted by singer Nicki Minaj -who also won the award for Best Hip Hop for her song Super Freaky Girl-, was held at the Prudential Center in Newark (New Jersey).

- Video for Good: Dove Cameron (Breakfast).

- Album of the Year: Taylor Swift (Midnights).

- Best Choreography: Blackpink (Pink Venom).

- Best Art Direction: Doja Cat (Attention).
