St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York held a mass of reparation after a group of trans activists desecrated the church during a funeral for an atheist member of the group. Parish priest Fr. Enrique Salvo said in a statement that they were deceived since the funeral organizers only told them that "the family and friends" of the deceased requested a funeral for a Catholic believer. Instead, the activists showed up dressed in inappropriate attire. They laughed and mocked the church from behind the ambo, where the Word of God is proclaimed.

"Sacrilegious and deceptive"

Fr. Salvo posted on the Cathedral's social media that he learned "of the scandalous behavior at a funeral" due to complaints from others, whom he thanked for sharing their concerns. He revealed that Cardinal Timothy Nolan requested the cathedral hold a mass of reparation, which has already been celebrated.

Thanks to so many who have let us know they share our outrage over the scandalous behavior at a funeral here at St. Patrick’s Cathedral earlier this week. The Cathedral only knew that family and friends were requesting a funeral Mass for a Catholic, and had no idea our welcome and prayer would be degraded in such a sacrilegious and deceptive way. That such a scandal occurred at “America’s Parish Church” makes it worse; that it took place as Lent was beginning, the annual forty–day struggle with the forces of sin and darkness, is a potent reminder of how much we need the prayer, reparation, repentance, grace, and mercy to which this holy season invites us. At the Cardinal’s directive, we have offered an appropriate Mass of Reparation.

Blasphemies and mockery

Last Thursday, one day after the start of Lent, the Cathedral held a funeral for a trans-atheist activist who called herself Cecilia Gentili. During the mass, one of the organizers shouted "this whore. This great whore. Saint Cecilia, mother of all whores."
