Minutes after the polls closed, Donald Trump was projected as the winner of the South Carolina Republican primary. While waiting for the first official results, it appears that the former president has prevailed over Nikki Haley, on whom all eyes will fall from now on. Some high-profile names have already publicly asked her to drop out of the race.
The former president and favorite to win the nomination would win the majority of the 50 delegates awarded by the Palmetto State.
Trump was the favorite in all polls, which projected him up to 30 percentage points above his rival, who coincidentally was the governor of the state until 2017 when she accepted the post of ambassador to the United Nations.
The former president was quick to celebrate the results and celebrated the triumph together with his followers. "This is a little sooner than we anticipated. And an even bigger win than we anticipated," he said to the applause of those present.
"I was just informed that we got double the number of votes that has ever been received in the great state of South Carolina," he added.

With these results, the former president would win all the primaries held so far: Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.
