Netflix accounts for 15% of the world's internet traffic

Youtube, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video are other platforms that generate a high percentage of internet usage.

A new report on internet phenomena revealed that Netflix is not only the most popular streaming service platform, but also accounts for 15% of all global cyberspace traffic.

According to the study published by Sandvine, the network and application intelligence company, the highest  downstream Internet traffic comes from web applications and Netflix is precisely the platform that accounts for the largest amount of megabytes with 14.9%.

YouTube follows with 11.4% and a little further behind is Disney+ with 4.5%. The report notes that Amazon Prime Video is also responsible for a significant 3.7% share. Other platforms that have generated a large amount of the world's downstream traffic are social networks and games such as Tiktok, Facebook, Playstation and Xbox.

"The average person can spend up to eight hours a day on internet applications. Whether for work, school, communications, or education, apps have become integral to our way of life.," Sandvine said.

Netflix dominates the market

Despite the wide variety of streaming platforms, Netflix has the most subscribers in each country. The famous platform leads in 78 countries around the world with approximately 231 million subscribers, dominating especially in Europe, South America, Mexico and Australia.

Another report published earlier this year concluded that during 2022 Netflix series had the highest number of views with Stranger Things taking first place by having viewers spend more than 52 billion minutes watching its 34 episodes of fiction.

The second most watched program was NCIS with 38.1 billion minutes watched, third place went to Cocomelon with 37.8 billion. The crime drama Ozark followed with 31.3 billion minutes and then Merlina, with 18.6 billion minutes.
