Liz Cheney considers third-party candidacy to prevent Trump from becoming president again

According to the daughter of former Vice President Cheney, Trump's return to the White House is "the single most dangerous threat" to the country.

Liz Cheney announced that she is considering a run as a third-party presidential candidate to prevent Donald Trump's return to the White House. The former conservative congresswoman assured that a victory for the former president in the 2024 elections "is the single most dangerous threat" to the United States. For this reason, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney asked that "Democrats, independents and Republicans work together, vote together and make it clear that Donald Trump is not an acceptable alternative."

Promoting her new book

Cheney, who is promoting her new book, "Oath and Honor: A Memoir and a Warning," has had interviews with various media outlets in which she repeated the message that she is considering proposals from parties like New Label for an alternative candidacy, as long as it does not give Trump an advantage. She says that a Trump victory would be the worst thing that could happen to the country and even the world. On MSNBC she stated:

It is so fundamentally important we ensure Democrats, independents, Republicans that we work together, we vote together, we make clear that Donald Trump is not an acceptable alternative. He is not the lesser of two evils. He is a completely unfit man for office. He’s already shown us what he would do, and he could never be near the Oval Office again.

Cheney invites all who can stop Trump to step forward

During an interview with The Washington Post, Cheney stressed that "several years ago, I would not have contemplated a third-party run, but I happen to think democracy is at risk at home, obviously, as a result of Donald Trump’s continued grip on the Republican Party, and I think democracy is at risk internationally as well." She elaborated on the need to stop Trump. In fact, she invited all the people who consider it and believe that they can prevent the magnate's return to the presidency to take a step forward:

I think certainly Trump is the most significant threat but I think that, you know, we’re facing an emergency across the board. I think people need to think about, first of all, running for office themselves. I say that with great seriousness. You know, we need, if you look at the threats our country is facing, we need serious people in office. I don’t care if you agree with me or you disagree with me on any range of issues. If you are going to fight for the Constitution and you are going to defend the Constitution and you are going to be a serious and faithful public servant, then please run for office, please vote for people that will do that.

Cheney calls for a reset of the GOP or a new conservative party

Another of Cheney's key points to defend democracy, as she told USA Today, is the need to completely renew the Republican Party, removing Trump's "enablers" and "collaborationists" from the ranks of the GOP or creating a new conservative party. The former congresswoman assured that she would even vote for Biden as long as Trump is not the next president.

I certainly hope to play a role in helping to ensure that the country has ... a new, fully conservative party. And so whether that means restoring the current Republican Party, which ... looks like a very difficult if not impossible task, or setting up a new party, I do hope to be involved and engaged in that.
