Loren Merchán - daughter of the judge presiding over the case against Donald Trump - worked for numerous major Democratic Party campaigns, including that of Vice President Kamala Harris and Rep. Adam Schiff (leader of the Democrats' first attempt to impeach the former president in 2019).
This fact casts further doubts about the partiality or political bias of Judge Juan Merchán, who was already under public scrutiny because of the discovery that he made donations to the ActBlue organization that would have been earmarked for Biden's 2020 presidential campaign and the group Stop Republicans, a group dedicated to "resisting" Trump and the Republican Party.
According to FEC filings, Judge Juan Merchan donated 3x to ActBlue:
- 1st donation was earmarked for Biden's 2020 presidential campaign
- 2nd was pledged to a PAC that rallies voter turnout for Dems

His daughter worked for the Biden-Harris campaign
Loren Merchán is a partner, president and chief operating officer of Authentic Campaigns, a consulting firm that worked for the
Biden-Harris campaign in 2019 and 2020. He also contributed to the campaigns of other Democrats such as California Governor Gavin Newsom, New York House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema.

Merchán was the digital director for Harris' 2020 campaign. The official web page of the consulting firm includes a video where the vice-president can be seen in the middle of the campaign.
Trump accuses judge of "partisanship"
In a post on Truth Social, Trump himself questioned the judge's daughter and entire family for their political connections to the Biden-Harris Administration.
The former president warned about the judge's ties to Harris and other Democrats and accused the administration of choosing judicial officials who would bring more charges against him in order to eliminate him as a potential political rival. He further alleged that the case is part of a larger conspiracy:

Judge Merchán previously presided over a tax fraud case involving two Trump Organization corporate entities. Although the former president was not tried, a jury found the two Trump entities guilty on all 17 counts. Trump's children shared posts on social media where they talk about "corruption" and a "hand-picked Democratic trial."
