Jon Rahm wins the American Express in California and equals Severiano Ballesteros

The Spanish golfer, who has won both tournaments he has played in 2023, equals the 9 trophies of the late genius.

Golfer Jon Rahm won his second consecutive title this Sunday, and this after only having played just two tournaments so far this year. On this occasion, at The American Express Championship in La Quinta, California, after beating Davis Thompson with a round of 68 to finish at 27 under par. A trophy with which he now sees him with nine in his trophy cabinet, equaling that of Severiano Ballesteros, also a Spaniard.

With this victory -which he previously won in 2018-, the Spaniard now has nine PGA Tour titles in his trophy cabinet, four of these wins have come in the last six tournaments he has played.

In addition, he now has the distinction of being ranked No. 1 in the FedEx Cup and No. 3 in the world.

Rahm and Thompson started the final round tied at 23 under par. The 23-year-old American had made five eagles in the first two rounds at La Quinta. However, the 28-year-old Spaniard displayed his solidity and experience when he came out firing with two birdies on his first two holes, which gave him the lead.

Rahm signed a final card of 68 strokes thanks to five birdies (1, 2, 2, 9, 11, 16) and one bogey (13) Meanwhile, Thompson shot a final round of 62, 10 under par, to finish third at 25 under par with Chris Kirk.
