Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Mark Green, announced in a statement that the committee will begin "impeachment proceedings against Secretary Mayorkas early in the new year."
A frequent critic of the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Green explained that the straw that broke the camel's back was "by strategically holding" the publishing of the number of encounters with illegal immigrants during November. According to the representative, Mayorkas waited "until the Friday before Christmas" because:
These numbers are so bad, he wants as few Americans to see them as possible.
The report reveals that 191,113 encounters with illegal immigrants were recorded throughout November at the southern border. An increase compared to October, when 188,778 arrests were recorded.
"December’s numbers, which will be released in January, are anticipated to be even more grim," Green also said. "Fortunately, next month the Secretary won’t have a major holiday as a convenient shield to hide behind."
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene proposed a resolution in November to hold a recall vote against the DHS secretary. The resolution did not prosper due to the vote against it by eight Republican representatives.
According to a recent Rasmussen Reports poll, 55% of potential American voters agree that Congress should impeach Mayorkas and 37% of those potential voters "strongly approve."
