Golden State Warriors make Steve Kerr highest-paid coach in NBA history

The architect of the franchise's greatest period in its history has extended his contract for two more seasons and $35 million.

Steve Kerr will be the highest paid coach in NBA history. The Golden State Warriors and their head coach agreed to extend his contract until the 2025-2026 season. He will receive a total of $35 million, $17.5 million per season.

The new deal makes him the highest-paid coach on an annual basis in NBA history. Other coaches like Erik Spoelstra (Miami Heat), Gregg Popovich (San Antonio Spurs) and Monty Williams (Detroit Pistons) previously signed larger but longer-term agreements.

Neither party has officially announced the deal that was reported by ESPN journalist Adrian Wojnarowski after speaking with close sources:

Four rings in 10 seasons

Kerr is one of the main architects, along with players like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant and Draymond Green, among others, of the Golden State Warriors dynasty. He began his tenure with the Warriors in the 2014-2015 season, replacing Mark Jackson, and his start could not have been better: he won the first of the four NBA titles with the Warriors. The other three came in the 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and 2021-2022 seasons. Kerr also lost two NBA Finals in this decade at the helm of the Warriors.

Since 2021, he has also served as the head coach of the U.S. Men's National Team, which he will seek to lead to gold at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, which will begin in July.
