A part of Greenland suffered a telecommunications outage (phone, SMS, internet) on Monday night, and the local provider, Tusass, is investigating a possible link to the blackout in Spain, from where the Greenlandic supply is partly managed.
"The connection to our equipment in Maspalomas in Spain [in the Canary Islands], on which we rely heavily to serve customers in the area under satellite coverage, was lost," Tusass writes in the statement.
The affected areas, where supply is via satellite, are in the north and south of this vast Arctic territory.
"We are trying to find out if there is a link to the major power outage that affected Spain," the statement said at midnight Monday. This Tuesday morning, the operator had offered no further details.
By Tuesday morning, the power supply had been almost fully restored in Spain and Portugal, according to their respective operators.
