North Korea says it will expel soldier Travis King from the country
Pyongyang made this decision after questioning the American soldier. It is not known when or how this will be done.
North Korean authorities have assured that they will expel U.S. soldier Travis King from their territory, King crossed into the communist country from South Korea in July.
"The relevant organ of the DPRK decided to expel Travis King, a soldier of the U.S. Army who illegally intruded into the territory of the DPRK," the state news agency reported in statements reported by the Associated Press.
Pyongyang made this decision after authorities finished interrogating him. What is not yet known is when or where or how he will be expelled from North Korea, although there are precedents in which an emissary was sent to collect the captive and his belongings.
According to the North Korean news agency, during interrogation King confessed that he decided to voluntarily enter North Korea because he had "ill feeling against inhuman maltreatment and racial discrimination" that he observed in the United States Army and because he was "disillusioned about the unequal U.S. society."
On August 16, the North Korean regime confirmed that Travis King crossed the border that divides the two Koreas and reached its territory. After learning of the soldier's arrival in the communist country, the Department of Defense (DOD) always set the goal of bringing him back to the United States.
