The United Nations organization is in the eye of the storm after this Tuesday its security body arrested Gilad Erdan, Israel's ambassador to the UN, after he protested against the Iranian dictator Ebrahim Raisi during the General Assembly.

The reason for the arrest of the Israeli ambassador has not yet been clarified, but it happened after the ambassador left the General Assembly after showing a photograph of Mahsa Amini during Raisi's speech.

Amini was brutally murdered in September 2022 by a security force of the Iranian regime known as the morality police. The reason for the woman's arrest and subsequent murder was for not wearing her hijab properly, which sparked massive protests in Iran and around the world against Raisi's regime.

Erdan's photo of Amini carried the message: "Iranian women deserve freedom now!"

The repression by Iranian security forces against protesters following Amini's murder sparked strong criticism from the international community.

For this reason, Raisi's presence at the General Assembly generated discomfort and questions to the UN. It also motivated dozens of people to approach the headquarters in New York City to take a stand against the regime of the Islamic Republic.

The Israeli ambassador harshly criticized the UN for giving space to Raisi, whom he described as a “vile murderer.”

"While the butcher of Tehran is speaking at the UN and is being respected by the international community, hundreds of Iranians are protesting outside, shouting and calling on the international community to wake up and help them," Erdan said in a statement.

"It is a disgrace that member states stay to listen to a mass murderer. It should not be possible for a murderer with blood on his hands to receive a platform here at the U.N. I left the speech to make it clear that the State of Israel stands with the Iranian people. I call on the international community to stop the madness and prevent murderers and anti-Semites from coming and speaking here at the U.N.," he said.
