A new exhibition by the Nuggets player was not enough against the Baltics, where the performance of Utah Jazz interior Lauri Markkanen stood out.

Nikola Jokic wasn’t enough to prevent Serbia’s collapse at EuroBasket. The heavy favorite for the title was left stunned and eliminated in the round of 16 by Finland (92–86) on Saturday in Riga.

Despite another strong performance from their star, Serbia was outplayed by Finland, who delivered a top-level game. The Finns will face either Georgia or France in the quarterfinals, with that matchup set for Sunday (12:15 GMT).

The elimination of Jokic's team is the big surprise of this Eurobasket, in which it was considered the big favorite. A status earned by the presence of Jokic, considered one of the best players in the world and author of another high-level individual performance: 33 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists.

But on the other side the team led by the Utah Jazz interior, Lauri Markkanen, one of the heroes of the night (29 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists), held on after a magnificent game, concluded with mettle against an impotent world runner-up.

Saturday's results

Turkey - Sweden 85 - 79

Germany - Portugal 85 - 58

Lithuania - Latvia 88 - 79

Finland - Serbia 92 - 86
