Real Madrid's president to build New York's first soccer stadium
ACS, a company owned by Florentino Pérez, will build a soccer-specific stadium in Queens, very close to Flushing Meadows.
Florentino Pérez, president of Real Madrid, is embarking on a new American adventure. The New York City Football Club (NYCFC) has selected the firm HOK as architect and Turner Construction Company, from the ACS Group, chaired by Florentino Pérez, as general contractor to design and build the first large stadium specifically for soccer in New York City. Until now, the New York City Football Club had played its games in smaller venues or in football stadiums. The site chosen for the stadium is Willets Point, in Queens, near the New York Nets baseball stadium and the National Tennis Center, where the U.S. Open is held.
The project is valued at $780 million and it is expected to open for the 2027 season. Turner Construction has a specific division specialized in sports construction. Its customers include professional soccer, football, baseball, field hockey and basketball teams. Turner has worked in many of the world's major sports venues, including TQL Stadium, the Golden 1 Center, Madison Square Garden and Yankee Stadium.
The United States has emerged as ACS's main market. In 2022, it generated $18.8 billion of revenue in the country, up 27% from the previous year. This accounts for 56% of the group's total business.
