New York partially suspends subway service in Queens for nine days: Here are the affected stations
Line A will be out of service at three stations from this Saturday, Nov. 7, through Monday, Nov. 16. Authorities have arranged for free 24-hour bus service to facilitate travel while modernization work is underway.

Everyday life on the New York subway in Times Square
The subway service in New York will experience a partial disruption for nine days in the borough of Queens due to rail infrastructure modernization work. The disruption began this Saturday, Nov. 7, and will continue until 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 16, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).
The suspension specifically affects a section of the A line, which connects Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. During this period, trains will not run between Rockaway Boulevard and Ozone Park–Lefferts Boulevard stations, temporarily leaving three stops without rail service.
According to information published in a report by CBS News and MTA announcements, the closure is part of a project to modernize the signaling system and replace sections of track.
Which stations will be closed?
The three stations that will be without train service are 104th Street, 111th Street and Ozone Park–Lefferts Boulevard, located in southern Queens.
During the construction, A Line trains that normally terminate at Lefferts Boulevard will be rerouted to Howard Beach–JFK Airport, a station that connects to the AirTrain system at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The rest of the A Line will continue to operate, including service to Far Rockaway–Mott Avenue and Manhattan.
Free buses available 24 hours a day
To minimize disruptions, the MTA has provided free shuttle buses that will run continuously between Rockaway Boulevard and Ozone Park–Lefferts Boulevard, with stops at 104th Street and 111th Street.
Passengers needing to travel to the affected stations should get off the A train at Rockaway Boulevard and continue their journey by bus. The same route can be taken in the opposite direction.
According to the information on service changes published by the MTA, riders can check available alternatives, schedule changes and connections before starting their trips.
Why is service suspended?
The construction is part of the renovation of the New York City subway system, which includes the installation of more modern signaling systems and the replacement of deteriorated tracks.
Signal systems control train traffic and maintain safe distances between trains. Their modernization aims to improve service reliability, reduce delays and facilitate more efficient operations.
The MTA is incorporating these improvements into its 2025–2029 investment plan, which includes the renewal of dozens of miles of rail signaling on various lines throughout the system.
Authorities recommend that riders allow for additional travel time over the next few days, especially those who use the Lefferts Boulevard section daily to get to work or school.
If the work is completed as scheduled, regular service will resume on Monday, Nov. 16, at 5 a.m. Passengers can check for any changes in real time via the MTA's official website or by calling 511.
