Elon Musk confirmed that Tesla will begin scaling back production of its Cybertruck model at its Texas plant in a few months.

Through a brief post on X, the South African-born entrepreneur announced that the purpose of this decision is to make room to increase production of the Tesla Cybercab, its robotaxi.

"Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production," the CEO said.

The Cybertruck's chief engineer, Wes Morrill, said in an X post that the vehicle "was an incredible technology development platform."

"Thanks to everyone who contributed to making the future looking like the future. As well to the community of owners whose adventures I've enjoyed and will continue to follow," he added.

The Cybertruck, a 100% electric pickup truck that was groundbreaking because it broke all the rules of style and design, was unveiled on Nov. 21, 2019, at the Tesla Design Studio, located in Hawthorne, Calif.

It was launched in 2023. Specifically, on Nov. 30 of that year, Tesla began delivering the first units to customers during a special event at its Gigafactory in Austin, Texas.

The company led by Elon Musk has never disclosed the exact annual sales figures for the Cybertruck. However, various sources indicate that between 55,000 and 80,000 units were sold from its official launch through the first part of 2026.
