Terry Brunk, known in the ring as “Sabu,” has died at the age of 60, just weeks after wrestling in a retirement match at WrestleMania in Las Vegas.
“Sabu” joined the world of professional wrestling by following in the footsteps of his uncle, WWE Hall of Famer Ed “The Sheik” Farhat. He made a name for himself in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), a promotion known for its hardcore wrestling style—featuring weapons like chairs and tables, and a grittier, more adult-oriented presentation.
"From barbed wire battles to unforgettable high-risk moments, Sabu gave everything to professional wrestling," said World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in a statement. All Elite Wrestling (AEW) echoed the sentiment, calling him, “a pioneer of hardcore wrestling, leaping from chairs and driving his opponents through tables and even barbed wire.“
After the turn of the century, Sabu joined WWE following its acquisition of ECW. Though his stint with the company was brief, he went on to compete in several other promotions, including New Japan Pro Wrestling, TNA, and various independent circuits.
