FAA shuts down helicopter tour company implicated in death of former Siemens Spain CEO

The helicopter tour company involved in a crash in New York that killed six people, including a Spanish family, on Thursday, will close, U.S. authorities announced Sunday.
The accident killed a senior Siemens executive, his wife and three children, and the the pilot. The helicopter suffered a malfunction and disintegrated in midair before plunging into the cold water of the Hudson River.
The helicopter company, New York Helicopter Tours, is "shutting down operations immediately," the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement on X.
"The FAA will initiate an immediate review of the tour operator's license and safety record," the civil aviation authority said in a statement.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the cause of the accident.

A video of the incident shows how the fuselage allegedly detached from the rotor.
"They were celebrating the mother's 40th birthday with the helicopter sightseeing flight yesterday. The children were 11 years old and younger," Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said in a statement.
